My People

.

My People
We’ve got to do better
Not just to keep up with the Jones’
But do it for self
Aren’t you tired of being a joke?
Notice how they only interview the one that looks like they just rolled out of bed and completely ignore the one in the suit that has knowledge seeping out of their pores
Don’t tell me that is how you were raised
Break the cycle
Aim higher
Evolve
Seems like we’re comfortable
Playing the monkey at the circus
And that isn’t disrespect to anyone specific
But if the shoe fits
Then you need to wear it
We need to change
To elevate
Only we
Can fix us

God’s Laughter

They say God only takes the best
So until you’ve fulfilled your purpose on this earth you’re here with the rest
We miss you brother
You brought tears to our eyes for years
But now we shed a different kind as we mourn your passing
Guess God had other plans…wanted you in that pantheon with the other greats
If anything we’re the selfish ones wishing you were still here
While you sit perched on your cloud gazing around saying, “this is what I’ve been missing”
Go get your rest in until we all meet again
We send you off with the biggest round of applause you’ve ever received
This is to your new life up above as the physical has come to an end.

Kings & Queens

Kings…Queens
Gods…Goddesses
Man…woman
Started off a boy and girl
As with most love stories
You have the bullshit that comes

He say

She say

Telling her how he wants to test drive the car before marriage
Telling him how she likes to be spoiled and likes to live a certain lifestyle
Smirking at her saying, “Girl I ain’t no damn trick and ain’t never been a simp!”
Moving her neck and waving hands in the air at him yelling, “All you niggas out here now a day are lames!”

King speaks to her like a peasant… “Lil momma stay in yo lane”
Queen lets him know royalty shouldn’t be addressed as such… “You need to come better boo if you want to be with me.  See I’m a real lady so to impress me you have to come with more than a nice mouth piece and hard dick.”

He cracks a smile
She smiles back

Could this be the start of something?
Something new……

When I'm Gone

A couple blocks over last night….life was taken

Shots fired and bullets sending everyone but the actual targets to their final resting place

The bitter reality that life is precious and tomorrow isn’t promised

Words that I never got to tell you

Feelings forever left in limbo

Questions unanswered

My son without a father

Mom losing her only child

I know we can’t control how we go

Not possible for a man to know the date he will die

Though things are etched in stone

Take heed as this may be the final time you hear from me

The footprints that my lyrics leave in your mind, as the impression from the soles touch your soul

Tired of this life where it only matters what a person wears and who they claim to know or how hard they act

The BET lifestyle is like a needle that constantly pumps ignorance into our youth

While keeping some of the adults sedated and desensitized to tools of coons

I only 27 yet I feel light years ahead of my time

Every time I speak of overcoming and a new age revolution I get dirty looks from one of mine

The old folks may finally have it right this time….this generation is the worst

At least when I was coming up we had common sense…..may not have always exercised it but it was there

Values instilled by our parents

I’m only one man and I am already preoccupied raising my young man so I can’t raise others while you hit the clubs and stand out on the block

Spending time with your children and teaching them the ways so they can grow to have a better life than you that’s what it’s all about

I pray for you world…..but I can no longer let you weigh my heart down

You’ll miss me when I’m gone

Black Dirt

Oh how far we’ve come, yet still have so much more road ahead of us until we reach the finish line
Overcoming, struggling, discrimination…..are not things of the past and are far from over
Slaves, servants, not fit to even occupy your space
The funny looks walking into a nice restaurant, being followed around stores expecting for us to steal
We’re always cocky and not just sure of ourselves
If someone that looked just like you exhibited the same traits would you say the same thing?
I didn’t think so
It’s all a big game of who can be the biggest hypocrite
You quote bible scriptures and tell me how I’m an abomination on man kind
And I say you’re disgrace to everything Christ stood for
My God is a good of love
That knows no hate
You say you come in the in the name of him, burning crosses in my ancestors yards
You tell me I need Jesus but I talk to Him every day
Now who influences your actions?
